Arch Wire: This stainless steel wire runs through the groove in your brackets and sticks out slightly at the rear of the bands. If the wire moves to one side, it can get longer and stick your cheek. Cover it with wax. If necessary, call the office if this should occur. If the wire should break, do not become alarmed. Call the office for advice.
Bands: The round metal "rings" that are cemented to your back teeth. The wire fits through them.
Bonded Brackets: The small, front braces glued to your teeth. Do not become alarmed if one becomes loose; call the office to see if you have to be seen before your next appointment.
Headgear: This is an appliance worn outside and inside the mouth. It helps to move your teeth while you sleep. You will receive specific instructions if you need this appliance.
Hooks: These are attached to the outside and inside of the bands and are for rubber bands. They can irritate your tongue or cheek if they become bent when eating.
Tube: The round part on the outside of the band that the wire fits through.
